In-camera Village Council meetings are also known as private or closed meetings. The public is not allowed to attend a private Council meeting.

A closed Council meeting or a part of a public meeting that is closed to the public must adhere to the Local Governance Act, Section 68 (1)(a-j) – Closed meetings.

Only the following subject matters may be considered at private or closed meetings. The relevant Local Governance Act paragraph is noted after each item:

  • Confidential by legislation – 68.1 (a)
  • Personal – 68.1 (b)
  • Agreements or contracts – 68.1 (c)
  • Land matter – 68.1 (d)
  • Government confidentiality – 68.1 (e)
  • Legal or privileged advice – 68.1 (f)
  • Litigious or potentially litigious – 68.1 (g)
  • Security – 68.1 (h)
  • Police investigation – 68.1 (i)
  • Labour, employment, and negotiations – 68.1 (j)

The Village of New Maryland schedules Closed Sessions of Council only if there are items that need to be addressed in a closed meeting.
