In accordance with Village of New Maryland Animal Control By-law No. 52-2006, cats (as well as dogs) are not permitted to run at large in the Village, (Section 3 (11)).

“Running at large” occurs when an animal is in any place, other than on the property of the owner of the animal, and not secured by a leash which is two (2) metres or less in length and under the control of the owner of the animal.

Owners of cats must keep them on their own property and not allow them to roam – whether than means keeping them inside or keeping them on a tether when they are outside.

Cats that are caught roaming will be taken to the Oromocto SPCA by our Animal Control Officer and the owner of the cat will be required to pay a Village fine of $50 (and any other fees that the SPCA charges) when they retrieve their cat at the SPCA.

More information about our Animal Control By-law can be found on the Village website here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Village office at 451-8508 or office@vonm.ca
