Urban Design Plan
About the Project
The Village of New Maryland is working on a new project aimed at establishing urban design standards and guidelines to create a more vibrant community core along the New Maryland Highway. Urban design standards and guidelines are development regulations that aim to improve the look, feel and cohesiveness of the community. They help to establish a sense of place and improve safety and comfort for pedestrians and other active transportation users, making for a more vibrant and inviting streetscape. Some examples of what these guidelines will cover include building setbacks and heights, parking lot design, signage, and building materials, among others.
Currently, a draft has been completed of the Urban Design Standards and Public Realm Guidelines. You can read the report here: https://www.vonm.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Urban-Design-Standards-Full-Report-compressed.pdf
