The Village of New Maryland is proud to join communities across Atlantic Canada in celebrating Pride Month this June, honouring the history, courage, and diversity of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

This year’s celebrations hold special significance following Council’s recent adoption of the Village’s new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policy. The policy formalizes New Maryland’s structural commitment to eliminating barriers and fostering a community where all residents, staff, and visitors feel valued, safe, and respected.

To mark Pride Month, the Village will feature a mix of visual traditions and formal events:

  • Village Office Rainbow Illuminations: Returning as an annual tradition, the exterior lights of the Village Office will be changed to reflect the vibrant colors of the rainbow, serving as a bright, visible symbol of welcome and solidarity throughout the month of June.
  • Pride Flag Raising Ceremony (Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.): Members of Council, staff, and the public are invited to gather at Victoria Hall (466 New Maryland Highway) as we officially raise the Pride flag.
  • Official Pride Month Proclamation (Wednesday, June 17, 2026): During the regular Council meeting, Mayor and Council will read and officially adopt the 2026 Pride Month Proclamation, celebrating the invaluable contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals to our community.

All residents and allies are warmly encouraged to attend the June 10th flag raising and enjoy the evening light displays. -mk
