Public Announcement for Water Treatment Plant Start-up

The Village has started the operation of our new water treatment plant and it is using the water from the new production wells.  Our water mains contain a buildup of iron and manganese from our existing water system. The new water treatment process includes a filtration system that removes iron and manganese before the water enters the distribution system.

The new wells produce about three times more water than the current production wells. As a result, more water is moving through the mains at a higher velocity, which is helping clean the existing buildup from the system.  This increased flow has caused temporary water discoloration in some homes during the start-up of the new treatment facility. We anticipate this cleaning effect to be short-lived.

Our goal is to use the new wells and treatment plant to their full potential while minimizing use of the existing Applewood wells until they can be redeveloped.

In the meantime, temporary discoloration may occur in some homes until the treatment facility is fully operational. If you notice water discoloration in your home, please flush your water line through an outside hose bib until the water runs clear. If the water discoloration continues, please contact the Village office at 506-451-8508 and staff will investigate further.
